Read-along for iPhone & iPad

The narrator reads.
The words light up.

Your own audiobooks, synced to your own ebooks — word by word, entirely on your device.

The problem

If your mind wanders during audiobooks, it isn't your fault.

Listening alone gives your eyes nothing to do. You drift, and surface four minutes later with no idea what happened.

Eyes and ears, together

The words hold your focus while the narrator carries the pace. Two halves of the same book, finally moving as one.

Word-perfect sync

Every spoken word is matched to the word on the page. Tap any word to send the narration straight there.

Yours, and private

Your books never leave the device and there is no account. Community sync shares only anonymous timing data so popular books start in seconds, and you can switch it off.

The reader highlighting the spoken word at night
Read your way

Any book. Any light. Any device.

Read at night, in sepia, or on paper. The text holds one clean, readable column, and your place is kept the moment you look away — down to the exact word.

Save a passage and it stays saved. Come back tomorrow and the highlight is waiting where the voice left off.

Your library

Bring the books you already own.

An ebook and its audiobook — epub or PDF, m4b or mp3. From Libro.fm, LibriVox, Standard Ebooks, your own rips, wherever. Drop them in and they're yours to read along with.

New to it? A public-domain classic is built in, so you can hear the difference on the very first page.

The Witbound library

How it works

Three steps, then it just follows along.

1 · Bring your files

Add an ebook and its audiobook — the ones you already own, from wherever you got them.

2 · Your device matches them

It listens to the narration once and lines it up with the text. It happens on your device, and never again for that book.

3 · Read and listen as one

The highlight follows the voice. Your place is kept, and so is every passage you save.

Made for the big screen too

On iPad, a bigger screen means wider margins — not longer lines.

No account · No analytics · No tracking

There is no account and no sign-up. The matching runs on the device in your hand and your books are never uploaded. The only thing that ever leaves is anonymous timing data for community sync, and that has an off switch.

Questions

Good to know.

Will it work with my Kindle or Audible books?

No — and it never will. Those files are copy-protected, and breaking that protection is illegal. Witbound refuses them on purpose rather than failing strangely later. Anything DRM-free works: Libro.fm, Downpour, LibriVox, Standard Ebooks, Project Gutenberg, or your own CD rips. New to this? Start with our free public-domain audiobook + ebook pairs.

How long does the first sync take?

You're reading within minutes. Witbound matches the first chapter first and opens the book right away, while the rest finishes quietly in the background — even overnight while charging. It happens once per book, ever; after that, playback is instant.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only briefly. Reading and listening work fully offline. Witbound goes online for community sync (so a popular book can start in seconds) and for your own Audiobookshelf server if you connect one, and you can turn community sync off.

What if the ebook and audiobook don't match exactly?

Different editions, abridgements and missing chapters are normal. Witbound matches what it can and leaves the rest as ordinary unnarrated text, rather than forcing a bad alignment.

Is there a Mac version?

Yes — Witbound for Mac is a free companion that syncs a book on your Mac in minutes, then sends it to your phone already synced over your own Wi-Fi. It's signed and notarised by Apple and needs macOS 26 or later. Android is in closed testing now.
