What we collect
Witbound has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and no advertising. Two features talk to a server, and both are described plainly below: community sync, which sends anonymous timing data to Witbound's sync server, and Audiobookshelf, which connects only to a server you own. Nothing Witbound sends can be linked to you. The App Store privacy label declares this as Other Data, not linked to you.
Community sync
When community sync is on, and after a book finishes syncing on your device, Witbound shares two things with its sync server: a non-reversible identifier derived from your ebook and audio files, and the anonymous timing data for that pairing (which words are spoken when). That is all. Never the book's text, title, or audio; never your name, email, device identifier, or location; there is no account to attach it to. The identifier cannot be turned back into the book and only ever matches someone who owns the identical files. The server is operated by Witbound on Cloudflare. If a pairing is already on the server, your copy starts from it instead of syncing from scratch.
Community sync is on by default. Turn it off in Settings → Community sync and nothing at all leaves your device for any book.
Audiobookshelf
If you connect an Audiobookshelf server, Witbound talks only to the address you enter. Your sign-in token is stored on your device and is never sent anywhere else; Witbound's servers never see your credentials, your library, or your server address.
Your books and audio
Books and audiobooks you import are copied into Witbound's private storage on your device and are processed there, using Apple's on-device speech engine. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared. Deleting a book from your library, or deleting the app, removes them.
Purchases
Witbound Plus is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store (earlier subscriptions are handled the same way). We never see your payment details, name, or address. Manage any subscription in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Network access
Witbound connects to exactly three places: Apple, for App Store purchases and receipt validation; Witbound's community sync server, only while community sync is on; and your own Audiobookshelf server, only if you connect one. Nothing else.
Children
Witbound does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights (UK GDPR / GDPR)
Witbound processes no personal data: community sync data is anonymous and cannot be tied to a person, and Audiobookshelf credentials live only on your device. So there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or erase. If you believe otherwise, contact us and we will help.
Changes
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future feature needs network access — the change will be described here before it ships, with a new effective date.
